How to drive change?

When a person or a company sets goals, objectives, or defines projects to accomplish, it brings about changes in that person’s life as well as within the organization that has also made such decisions.

Within a company, these changes can be influenced by internal or external elements. The same goes for individuals. It is therefore important to conduct a thorough analysis of the situation in order to choose the most suitable means for driving change. Why and how to drive change?

Change: what is it?

Driving change in the life of a company or an individual means opting for a well-defined method that will correct a situation of dissatisfaction in order to achieve the set goal or objective.

Change takes into account the nature of the problem posed, as well as the possible solutions that can be immediate or progressive, imposed or voluntary. Within a company, the method of driving change can be based on several aspects: intervention, authority, information, or participation.

The implementation of these aspects is carried out differently. Each of these four methods is identified with specific situations. For example, the so-called authority method is mainly used for strategic decisions. Important for the company, it will therefore be directed by the equity of leadership.

These are immediate and imposed changes. It is therefore very important for an individual or an organization to effectively drive change. Because poor management of change could lead to unpleasant outcomes.

Why is it necessary to drive change?

Regardless of the size of the change, whether small or large, its strategic scope can have a major and significant impact on the life of a company or an individual. This is why the project to drive change must be executed precisely, in order to avoid any issues that could undermine the driving of change.

It is therefore very important to define in advance the different methods of driving change. If it is within an organization, the management team must outline the main lines and define the objectives. The company can then choose the stakeholders, depending on the chosen method.

Identifying risks

In everything, it is important to anticipate. To get ahead of the threats that could disrupt the driving of change. So do not hesitate to ask yourself certain questions: what are the obstacles and resistances that may be manifested by the company’s personnel? Is the company ready to drive change? What are the areas of uncertainty? Etc.
